Perth to host short course swim champs

The state government has announced next year's Australian short course swimming championships will be held in Perth.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said securing the championships was a major coup for Eventscorp and Venues West.

"The event, a qualifying event for the FINA World Short Course Championships, is expected to attract more than 1,300 visitors, with an estimated economic impact of more than $2million," Dr Hames said.

"In addition, the championships will be broadcast throughout Australia with a total of 20 hours coverage including 10 hours of live broadcast to more than 500,000 viewers across the nation."

The championships will be held from September 12 to 16.

Eventscorp has previously hosted the 1991 and 1998 FINA Swimming World Championships and the 2008 FINA World Masters.
