Perth has been selected to host 11 matches during the International Cricket Council World T20 tournament in 2020, in line with the country’s other major cities.

Six men's matches will be played at Optus Stadium while five women's matches will be hosted at the WACA Ground, with fixtures to be announced in early 2019.

Optus Stadium is one of four venues that will host six men’s games, with the Sydney Cricket Ground, Melbourne Cricket Ground and Adelaide Oval also receiving six fixtures

The men’s and women’s finals will be played at the MCG.

The WACA will host five women’s matches along with Sydney Showgrounds, Manuka Oval (Canberra) and Junction Oval (Melbourne).

The government said that the tournament would generate $23 million in visitor expenditure in Perth.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia congratulated Cricket Australia and Tourism WA for securing the deal.

"Perth is perfectly situated as a host of the World T20,” he said

“Direct flights between London and Perth will be operational, and our time zone means the matches will be at optimum viewing times in markets like the UK, India and South Africa.

"The tourism industry supports 109,000 jobs, or 8.1 per cent of WA's workforce.

“Every $225,000 in overnight visitor spend creates one job in the tourism industry."

Premier Mark McGowan said he expected big crowds at the tournament.

"This series will put Perth in the spotlight of cricketing nations and I'm sure fans will be keen to come and experience our state-of-the-art stadium,” he said.
