The world’s largest track-mounted rock crushing and screening machine has arrived in Western Australia at a contracting business in Maddington.
Rapid Crushing & Screening Contractors is the first private contractor to operate the Swedish-built Jonsson L160 primary crusher globally.
The machine is the only one of its kind in Australia at present.
The appropriately nicknamed ‘Jumbo’ weighs just less than 190 tonnes and is expected to be a highly sought-after machine for high-capacity mines and quarries.
The L160 has a primary crushing capacity of 1,150t per hour and can process rocks up to 120 centimetres in size.
Rapid Crushing operations manager Glenn Irvine said use of the machine would reduce costs incurred sorting through ROM, as it nearly eliminated separate rock breaking.
“It is the ultimate mobile machine for open quarries and mines that require a seriously high capacity,” he said.
“It can produce big tonnages, at the best price possible and is the ideal solution for mines having a stand-down or unplanned failure of a mine’s primary jaw crusher.”
The business anticipates significant demand for the machine.
Due to its size, the machine cannot be flown between sites, but it can be dismantled and transported via trailer loads.
Its first appointment is at a site in Northern Queensland.
