Perth adviser arrested and charged with $948k theft

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has cancelled the financial services licence of Perth-based Platinum Perpetual Global Private Wealth, after an adviser from the firm was charged with stealing $948,000 of clients’ funds.

WA Police allege the Yanchep man made numerous unlawful withdrawals from his clients’ accounts during July this year.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has cancelled the financial services licence of Perth-based Platinum Perpetual Global Private Wealth, after an adviser from the firm was charged with stealing $948,000 of clients’ funds.

The corporate regulator said the licence was cancelled at the company’s request after the 38-year-old male was charged by police with eight counts of stealing.

ASIC said WA Police allege the Yanchep man made numerous unlawful withdrawals from his clients’ accounts during July this year.

He then allegedly transferred the stolen funds into several personal online gambling accounts.

He will appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Monday.
