Perseus appoints Weir as COO

African-focused Perseus Mining has appointed Amanda Weir as its chief operating officer, effective from Monday.

Ms Weir’s arrival follows on from news earlier this week that the Subiaco-based gold miner had acquired a 13.82 per cent stake in ASX-listed Predictive Discovery – although Perseus reiterated it was not presently looking in taking over the company.

Prior to her most recent role – interim group head of mineral resource management with gold giant Newmont – Ms Weir held a variety of roles with Newcrest Mining, which Newmont acquired in November last year.

“Perseus is going through a significant phase of growth but maintaining our focus on the performance of our operations will be key to the ongoing success of our company,” Perseus chair and chief executive officer Jeff Quartermaine said.

“Amanda brings a wealth of operational and technical expertise and deep knowledge of leading teams through strategic transformation in complex environments.

“We look forward to Amanda applying her significant skills and experience to help guide our operations through the next phase of growth.”

Perseus, which has several projects in Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire and Sudan, produced 509,977 ounces of gold during the 2024 financial year - meeting its annual guidance of 491,000-517,000oz. 

As of 10.06am WST, Perseus shares were up 2 per cent to $2.52.
