In the December 4 edition of Business News, it was wrongly stated that Alison Gaines was president of the Institute of Managers and Leaders WA when, in fact, she is president of Australian Institute of Management WA.
Kennaugh new Wrays’ director
Perth-based intellectual property firm Wrays has appointed two directors. Linda Kennaugh is the first woman to become a member of its board. Dr Kennaugh joined Wrays in 1999, and was appointed a principal of its life sciences and pharmaceuticals practices in 2013. Adelaide-based Chris Humphris has become the firm’s first director outside of WA.
PKF Mack has recruited Peter Sinclair as a manager in its business advisory services and taxation team. Mr Sinclair was most recently a senior manager at KPMG, following previous roles at HLB Mann Judd and DF Crawley & Associates.
Radio astronomer joins Curtin
Curtin University has appointed Melanie Johnston-Hollitt as a professor in the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research and the director of the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) project. Professor Johnston-Hollitt was previously director of the astrophysics group at Victoria University of Wellington. Until recently she was chair of MWA’s board, and has served on the board of the Square Kilometre Array project since 2011.
Legal moves
The state government has appointed Kate Glancy, Hylton Quail and Fiona Vernon judges of the District Court of Western Australia. Two of these are new positions, while the third will be to replace the retiring Annette Schoombee. Ms Glancy has served in the State Solicitors Office since 1993, and was appointed deputy state solicitor in July 2016. Mr Quail is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers. He is a former president of the Law Society of Western Australia and the Criminal Lawyers Association of WA. Ms Vernon is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers, with more than three decades of legal experience.
Mecoy to head Leadership WA
Leadership WA has appointed Dominique Mecoy chief executive. Ms Mecoy was director, client services at the Metropolitan Cemeteries board from 2009 until May this year, and more recently worked on policy at the Department of Premier and Cabinet. She currently serves as chair of Technology Assisting Disability WA.
PKF Lawler has appointed XiaoWen Shi director, specialist taxation and head of its new China desk. Ms Shi has previous experience as senior manager at EY, and currently sits on the council of the Western Australia Chinese Chamber of Commerce.
Perth-based office leasing agency Sheffield Property Group has appointed Jo Pages-Oliver associate director and Oisin Cummins head of research.
Knight Frank has appointed James Baker a senior sales executive in its commercial sales team. Knight Frank has also appointed David Mahood a commercial and institutional sales analyst. Mr Baker was most recently co-owner and director of Edison Property.
Western Meat Packers Group has appointed Jason Spencer as general manager, Lui Rinaldi as special projects manager, Ettiene Snyman as boning room manager, Rinda Ho as quality assurance manager, Bill Wong as information technology manager and Jim McGuckin as maintenance manager. Mr Spencer, who is responsible for WMPG’s processing and boning operation at Osborne Park, has held senior plant management and operations roles with JBS and Inghams in Victoria.
