Chartered accounting and advisory firm PKF Lawler has appointed Nikki Shen as a partner in its audit and assurance team. Ms Shen previously served as audit director for William Buck, where she worked for eight years. Prior to that she was audit manager in Moore Stephens’ Singapore office.
Curtin WA School of Mines deputy director Sam Spearing has been appointed director of the school. Mr Spearing joined Curtin in June last year after previously working in the US as associate professor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Boris Gurevich will serve as acting deputy director until a replacement is found.
Anne Driscoll has been appointed director general of the Department of Commerce. Ms Driscoll has been appointed to the role for a five year term, after serving as acting director general since the resignation of Brian Bradley in July last year. Ms Driscoll had been executive director of the department's consumer protection division since 2008.
Former Nextgen WA sales manager James Reid has been appointed executive director of cloud and telecommunications solutions company CorpCloud. Mr Reid spent over nine years with Nextgen following roles as sales manager for People Telecom and Swiftel Telecommunications.
Law firm Mills Oakley has appointed Kate Walawski and Daniel White as special counsel in its new workplace relations and employment law practice. Mr White was previously a senior associate at Norton Rose Fulbright, after beginning his career at DLA Piper. Ms Walawski was previously principal at KRW Legal, following stints with MDC Legal, IRDI Legal, and Sparke Helmore.
Former GWN director of news and current affairs John McCourt has been appointed chief executive of the Returned & Services League of Western Australia. Mr McCourt has served as a reservist in the Royal Australian Air Force since 1994. He is a former journalist with Seven Network, the West Australian and SkyNews.
Clifford Chance has appointed Jessica Davies counsel in its energy & resources practice. Ms Davies returns to Perth after five years in London and Sydney with Allen & Overy, and three years in New York with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
