The Gallop Government has provided $500,000 towards 26 projects in the Peel region as part of the 2006 Regional Development Scheme.

Peel Minister Mark McGowan said the projects had been chosen on the basis of their contribution to the economic, social and environmental development of the Peel region.
"One of the major grant recipients this year was the Peel Marketing Alliance, which received $25,000 to attract more tourists, businesses and skilled employees to the Peel region," Mr McGowan said.
"This project will aim to further the growth of Peel as a tourism destination and also seek to develop the potential of existing local businesses and operations."
The Minister said other projects to receive funding included a study on a near-threatened native bird at Yalgorup, the development of a new Transit Visitor Information Centre at Mandurah and the establishment of a wet trades training facility at Challenger TAFE.
"The Peel Harvey Catchment Council also received $20,000 to undertake a feasibility study into establishing a business case for the Peel Waterways Institute," he said.
"The development of a Peel Waterways Institute is something that would have strong economic, environmental and educational outcomes and this funding will allow the project to move forward."
Mr McGowan said the Regional Development Scheme was part of the Gallop Government's $80million Regional Investment Fund, which aimed to assist with the economic and social development of regional Western Australia.
"A total of $500,000 is made available to each of the State's five Development Commissions and organisations are requested to apply for funds up to a total of $150,000," he said.
"In this round, the Peel Development Commission received 62 submissions seeking just over $1.3million.
"This is the fifth year that the Scheme has been available and I am very pleased to see the high calibre of applications that are being submitted.
"The allocation of this funding is able to make a substantial difference to a wide variety of projects that will contribute to the sustainable development of the Peel region.
"The Gallop Government is committed to ensuring regional Western Australia receives its fair share."
