Paralympic effort
FUNDRAISING has begun to secure the $2 million needed to put together a team of 160 athletes and 90 staff to field a side at the 12th Paralympic Games.
While the Federal Government provides funds so the athletes can train at an elite level, the costs of sending the team to the Paralympic Games is met by corporate and community support.
The games will be held from September 17 to 28 in Athens and will involve more than 4,000 athletes representing 146 countries.
At these games Australia will be attempting to defend its title as the world’s greatest Paralympic nation – a title it received after finishing number one on the medal tally at the Sydney Paralympic Games.
So far a little more than $200,000 has been raised.
Donations can be made at any Westpac, Bank of Melbourne or Challenge Bank branch, online at www.paralympic.org.au or by phoning 1300 797 781.
