Pacific Energy has won a contract to build, own and maintain a 14 megawatt power station at Saracen Mineral Holding’s Thunderbox gold project near Leinster for an undisclosed sum.

The power station will supply electricity to the Thunderbox project, with Pacific commencing work in September under an initial five-year term contract.

Newly appointed managing director James Cullen said the contract built on the company’s ability to offer the market a remote electricity solution powered by diesel, gas or a combination of both.

In February, Pacific was contracted by Saracen to convert and expand an existing 10MW power station at the miner’s Carosue Dam project north of Kalgoorlie to an 11MW dual-fuelled power station.

It was also awarded a contract by AngloGold Ashanti to convert a 44MW power station at the company’s Tropicana mine from a diesel to a gas-fuelled operation, with the contract running through to 2028.

Pacific shares were 3.4 per cent higher to 44.5 cents each at 9:30am.
