Demolition works at the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children site in Subiaco will begin early next year, with the project awarded to Balcatta-based contractor RJ Vincent.

The remediation of PMH forms part of the state government’s Subi East project, which is set to create an inner-city village between Subiaco and the Perth CBD.

A final master plan for the project is due later this year.

The PMH demolition development application was recently approved, and early site works will begin next month.

The demolition is expected to take 18 months.

The 35,000 square metre site includes two heritage buildings – Godfrey House and the Old Outpatients Building – which Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said would be protected.

“We know Princess Margaret Hospital holds special memories for many families across WA," she said.

"We will respect those memories by preserving and retaining significant heritage buildings on the site, as well as reflecting the emotional connection for many Western Australians as part of the master planning process,” she said.

Ms Saffioti said the contract with RJ Vincent would support local jobs and boost the WA economy.

RJV had also undertaken the Subiaco Oval demolition mid-last year.
