PKF links with Mack

ACCOUNTING firm PKF has re-established a presence in Western Australia by signing up West Perth practice Mack & Co.

The merger of Mack & Co into the national PKF network will take effect on May 1, with the local firm to trade as PKF Mack & Co.

PKF national chairman David Ratcliffe said the branding of the Perth practice was in recognition of Mack & Co’s strong presence in WA.

Mack & Co has seven partners and 35 employees, and was ranked as the 20th largest accounting practice in the state in the WA Business News ‘Book of Lists 2011’.

“We are excited to be joining forces with PKF, as it means our existing clients will now have access to an even greater network of expertise and opportunities,” senior partner Tony Maclean said in a statement.

“It will also enable us to grow with our clients nationally and internationally.”

The Mack & Co merger will add to PKF’s network of 11 offices in cities and major regional centres in Australia.

“This arrangement reinforces PKF’s position as one of Australia’s leading national mid-tier accounting firms,” Mr Ratcliffe said.

The firm had been represented in Perth until the middle of last year, when most of its staff went to competing firms.

The audit practice, comprising three partners and 29 staff, joined Deloitte, making that firm the state’s third largest.

Most of the partners and staff in the old PKF’s tax and advisory practice joined Subiaco-based BDO, entrenching its status as the sixth largest accounting practice in the state, behind the ‘big 4’ practices and RSM Bird Cameron.

KPMG was also a beneficiary of the break-up of the old PKF, with tax partner Agnes Vacca joining the firm.
