HENDERSON-BASED engineering company, Orontide Holdings, has bought Port Hedland mechanical engineering company Robil Engineering, in order to expand services to the resources industry in the Pilbara region. Orontide managing director Keith Jones said the Orontide Group would build a new 1,000 square metre workshop next to the existing Robil workshop to increase mechanical engineering capacity and to establish a centre of excellence for the manufacture and refurbishment of conveyor pulleys and similar equipment in the north-west. Orontide has three existing businesses: Madco, which provides maintenance and repair services to mining and industrial clients; Madco Marine, which provides maintenance and repair services to the defence industry; and Alphablast, which provides protective coatings services to the defence and oil and gas industries. The group has more than 125 staff with facilities at the Australian Marine Complex in Henderson, Garden Island, Kalgoorlie and Sydney, in addition to the new premises at Port Hedland.
