Online services outsourced

NOTRE Dame University in Fremantle has become the first university to outsource its online education services.

The university has signed a heads of agreement with Working Systems Solutions Limited’s wholly owned subsidiary company Uni-U International Pty Ltd to deliver online education infrastructure and content to Australian and international universities, commerce and professional organisations.

The Notre Dame deal is Uni-U’s first.

Under the agreement, Uni-U will provide services for first degree units to be offered in January 2001.

Online educationalist Professor Bernard Glasson has been appointed as CEO and managing director of Uni-U, and he has accepted Notre Dame’s offer of the foundation chair of electronic commerce at the university to be funded by Uni-U.

The other directors are Working Systems executive deputy chairman Matthew Cherian and Working Systems CEO John Wreford.

Notre Dame vice chancellor Dr Peter Tannock said the arrangement would catapult the university into electronic commerce.

Prof. Glasson said he hoped to have several thousand students throughout the world studying their degrees online with Notre Dame University within the next few years.
