Ball to succeed Young at BC Iron
BC Iron managing director Mike Young has announced he will step down from the helm of the WA iron ore miner in May. Mr Young will remain on the BC Iron board as a non-executive director, while finance director Morgan Ball will take on the duties of managing director. Mr Ball has been with the company for three years and prior to that was chief financial officer and company secretary at Indago Resources. Mr Young was BC Iron’s only employee when the company listed on the ASX in 2006. Since then the company has grown from an explorer with a greenfields project into a 5 million tonnes per year iron ore producer.
Bond joins Fleetwood board
Prominent Perth property identity John Bond has joined the board of transportable housing and caravan manufacturer Fleetwood Corporation. Mr Bond has been a director of development group Primewest for more than a decade. Fleetwood said Mr Bond would provide the board with considerable expertise as a professional property investor, which is consistent with the company’s growth strategy.
Altona nabs Hallam, Scudamore
Finnish copper miner Altona Mining has appointed Paul Hallam and Steve Scudamore as non-executive directors. Mr Hallam is a director of Gindalbie Metals and Enterprise Metals. His former executive roles include director of operations for Fortescue Metals Group, executive general manager development and projects for Newcrest Mining, and director Victorian operations for Alcoa. Mr Scudamore is a former chairman of partners in WA for KPMG and is a director of Aquila Resources and MDA Insurance. Mr Scudamore is also a senior adviser to Lazard Australia and chairman of Amana Living. The appointments follow the retirement of Heikki Solin from the Altona board after six years and the resignation of Fiona Harris after five years for workload reasons. Ms Harris is chair of the Barrington Consulting Group and a non-executive director of BWP Trust.
Hanna to lead MOD Resources
Julian Hanna has been appointed as MOD Resources’ new managing director. Mr Hanna stepped down from Western Areas in November 2011 after serving for 12 years at the helm of the nickel miner. He joined MOD Resources two months ago as a non-executive director and technical consultant.
