Curtin chancellor replaced
After a three-year term in the chancellor’s role at Curtin University, Jim Gill is set to be replaced by Chevron Australia executive Colin Beckett at the end of the year. Mr Beckett will commence in the role as chancellor in January 2013. He is currently general manager greater Gorgon area with Chevron and is a board member and past chairman of the Australian Petroleum Producers and Explorers Association. He is set to succeed Dr Gill, former WA Water Corporation chief executive and chancellor since 2010, who chose not to run for a second term as chancellor for personal reasons.
Mulgrew in for Barnaba at Western Power
Western Power has a new chairman, with former Tourism WA chairman Alan Mulgrew appointed to succeed Mark Barnaba, who has resigned from the post. Mr Mulgrew currently sits on the boards of Doric Group, Adelaide Airport and Tesla Group. Interim chief executive Paul Italiano has been formally installed as the power utility’s chief executive. Mr Italiano has been acting in the role since February.
Hawkins leaves Aspen
Aspen Group managing director Gavin Hawkins has resigned as a director from all Group companies. Mr Hawkins co-founded the property investment and funds management business with Angelo Del Borello but the two men subsequently parted and had a bruising battle for boardroom control, which Mr Hawkins won. Aspen chairman Frank Zipfinger offered no explanation for Mr Hawkins’ resignation but paid tribute to his 11 years of service. Non-executive director Hugh Martin has been appointed as interim chief executive officer while the company searches for a permanent replacement. Mr Martin was formerly an executive director of Lend Lease and is currently acting as consultant to Lend Lease Development.
