Omanis turn to WA lobster techniques

WESTERN Australia’s rock lobster industry is teaching the Middle Eastern how to maintain a sustainable industry.

A delegation from Oman have just spent 19 days in WA learning about the management of the WA rock lobster industry which they can adopt in their own country. It received advanced training from the Department of Fisheries and was partly sponsored by the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organisation.

The Department is also seeking to foster an on-going relationship with Oman. The fisheries export market to the Middle East is still in its infancy. In 2000-01, $300,000 was exported to the region.
