Nuclear power on federal agenda

Federal industry minister Ian Macfarlane announced this week that planning for a nuclear power station could begin within the next 10 years. Speaking at the opening of the Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference in Sydney, Mr Macfarlane called for a national debate to introduce nuclear technology. Prime Minister John Howard declared his support for nuclear power and its potential to reduce global warming through cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
