Premier Alan Carpenter and opposition leader Colin Barnett have played it safe in a pre-recorded debate to be aired tonight, with no fiery arguments or any new policies announced.

Premier Alan Carpenter and opposition leader Colin Barnett have played it safe in a pre-recorded debate to be aired tonight, with no fiery arguments or any new policies announced.

As the last two weeks of campaigning begins, the ABC radio reported that no new policies were announced, unlike the last debate in 2005 when Mr Barnett announced his water canal policy.

However today Mr Barnett was downplaying expectations that the Liberals will offer tax cuts, saying he would rather spend money on education.

Meanwhile Mr Carpenter continued his attack on the Liberal Party's treatment of women and the ongoing support for shadow treasurer Troy Buswell.

The debate will be aired on Channel 9 tonight.
