No alarm bells yet for Carpenter

THE Note loves a good question and answer session for lunchtime speakers and the Committee of Economic Development of Australia’s presentation of newly installed premier Alan Carpenter last week did not disappoint. In our opinion, points have to be awarded to former Ernst & Young marketer Brian Leedman, who now heads up investor relations at tech company pSivida. Hardly known to be shy and retiring, Mr Leedman asked the new premier whether he might commission a “grand yet frivolous” building so that his descendents would know “how prosperous these times were”. No doubt with images of headlines such as Carps’ Folly appearing before his eyes, the wily politician said: “When it is time for me to go, I will announce it.”
