Newsmaker – Terry Budge

Murdoch University has appointed Terry Budge as its new chancellor, replacing Emeritus Professor Geoffrey Bolton, who will retire later this year. Mr Budge, a former managing director of BankWest, has been a member of the university senate since 2004, and was elected unanimously to his new position. He has enjoyed a banking and finance career spanning more than 30 years, and will formally take over as chancellor in November. Professor Bolton said he believed Mr Budge’s significant experience in the business sector running a large and complex corporation would be of immense value to the university, especially at a time of significant change in the sector. Mr Budge, who has served as a visiting professor in the Murdoch University School of Business, said he was honoured to accept the appointment. "In my time at Murdoch I have come to appreciate the many strengths of the University, particularly its focus on students, the quality of its teaching and research," he said. In 2003 Mr Budge was awarded a Centenary Medal for Service to Australian society through the finance sector.
