Newsmaker – Michelle Phillips

PERTH Glory has announced the appointment of Michelle Phillips to the role of chief executive officer. Ms Phillips most recently held the position of CEO at Football West and oversaw the restructure of grass-roots football in Western Australia, unifying the five associations that previously governed the sport during the past 18 months. Before that, she held positions as a business and commercial executive for a number of international organisations. Ms Phillips will take up her role in August. The club also announced the appointment of Ron Smith to the position of head coach. Mr Smith has been Football Federation of Australia’s technical manager for the past two seasons and played an integral role in the Qantas Socceroos World Cup campaign. He has also held the role of head coach of the soccer program at the Australian Institute of Sport for a 10-year period.
