Newsmaker – Kate Lamont

LEADING Western Australian restaurateur, Kate Lamont, has been appointed chairperson of the Tourism Western Australia board, replacing outgoing chairman Alan Mulgrew, who will step down from the position on September 1. Ms Lamont has 20 years’ experience in the wine and food industry, which includes running three successful restaurants – in the Swan Valley, Margaret River and East Perth. She has served on the Australian Tourist Commission board, as well as being chair of the Swan Valley Planning Committee for seven years. Five new board appointments also have been announced: John Spence, a developer of resorts in India, South-East Asia and Australia; Gail Reynolds-Adamson, a director of an Esperance-based Aboriginal tourism company; Fremantle’s Little Creatures Brewery founding director Howard Cearns; David Mazitelli, the outgoing chair of the Australian Tourism Export Council; and Kim Bridge, who runs an Indigenous-owned small business development company.
