Newsmaker – Ian Taylor

The City of Perth has appointed a former WA deputy premier, Ian Taylor, as its new ombudsman. Mr Taylor was a member of state parliament for 15 years. He held ministerial portfolios including health, police and emergency services and state development. He also served on parliamentary committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, which he chaired. The ombudsman considers complaints that cannot be resolved through the council’s normal internal processes. Specifically, the ombudsman will investigate: •a decision or recommendation; •an act done or omitted; or •a procedure relating to a matter of administration by a city employee or elected member. However, any complaint must first have been handled through the city’s normal service complaint procedures and been unable to be resolved through that process.
