WESTERN Australian Senator David Johnston has been appointed Justice and Customs Minister, following the federal government’s front bench reshuffle after WA Senator Ian Campbell resigned from the ministry. Following his appointment, Senator Johnston resigned from the chairmanship of Perth-based diamond explorer, New Millennium Resources, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market and has operations in Angola. Mr Johnston also announced that he would divest shares owned in companies that had employed the services of disgraced lobbyists Brian Burke and Julian Grill, to avoid a conflict of interest. The senator owns shares in Croesus Mining Ltd and Murchison Metal. Senator Johnston was elected to the Senate in 2001.
