THE Law Society of Western Australia has appointed Wayne Martin QC as president, effective from 1 January, 2006. Mr Martin, who takes over from 2005 president Celia Searle, has been a barrister in Perth since 1988. He became a Queen’s Counsel in 1993 and from 1997 to 2001 chaired the WA Law Reform Commission. He has also been president of the WA Bar Association and vice president of the Law Society of WA. Mr Martin said: "I am very keen to pursue the myriad issues that affect the access which ordinary Western Australians have to their justice system." Maria Saraceni and Dudley Stow will be vice presidents of the Law Society of WA in 2006.
