Queensland-based The Tourism Group is set to become the new operator of the Western Australian Visitor Centre in the Perth CBD after winning a state government contract.

The company has significant experience in the operation of visitor centres across Australia, including the Brisbane Airport Visitor Information Centres at the domestic and international terminals and Destination New South Wales, among others.

Tourism Group replaces Australian Visitor Centres, which had been running the centre for the past 11 years.

The government said that the centre, located at 55 William Street, would be run on a new model that included technological upgrades, consumer education and a focus on experiences.

Modifications will also be made to the existing centre, including removing the external advertising on windows and updating the interior.

The centre will remain in the current building, with the potential to move to a more prominent location in the future.

The company is expected to retain the existing staff.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia congratulated Tourism Group on being awarded the new tender.

"I am confident The Tourism Group, with its wealth of experience in running tourism operations across the country, will deliver a top-quality service to WA visitors,” he said.
