Premier Mark McGowan has today launched an online portal and advisory service to assist local businesses in securing state government contracts.

The portal will act as a central information source on how opportunities for local businesses to supply contracts can be maximised, and provide an avenue for local industry to share feedback and seek advice.

An advisory service has also been established to help local businesses and state government agencies understand the new strategy.

Advisers are available to assist businesses in regional areas as part of the service.

The state government spends $27 billion annually, and the government said WA businesses could obtain a larger share of this work.

Mr McGowan said the WA Industry Link service would create more opportunities for local businesses.

"The portal will link local businesses to government contracts, and provide them with all the information and support they need to give them the best chance of securing contracts,” he said

"The state government spends billions of dollars each year on goods, services and infrastructure.

"Small to medium-sized businesses represent the lion's share of business activity in Western Australia and around the nation.”

The government has established a number of pilot projects for the new initiative, including Metronet, Casuarine Prison and the Reid Highway project, with the system to be rolled out in full in September.

The government passed legislation recently that seeks to guarantee WA businesses a larger share of government contracts with prospective suppliers now required to submit local participation plans as part of their tender.
