The inaugural general manager of the state government’s controversial racetrack and entertainment precinct at Burswood could earn almost $194,000, but must be prepared to deal with “traumatic events in the workplace”.
A job advertisement has been published seeking someone with the ability to deliver “large scale commercial events” and manage “mass gathering” to run the Perth Park development.
“Due to the nature of the work undertaken, this position may be exposed to traumatic events in the workplace,” the advertisement reads.
“VenuesWest is committed to proactively ensuring the psychosocial safety and health of our workers through risk control and provision of services to support workers exposed to and impacted by traumatic events.”
Fencing and other final preparations ahead of ground works on the site adjacent to Crown Resort and Casino were visible last week.
Protest groups and the Western Australian opposition have run campaigns against the $217.5 million park plan, accusing the Cook government of having the wrong priorities.
But the job advertisement is further evidence of the government’s determination to go ahead with redeveloping the land at Burswood.
“The key responsibilities of the role are to support the design, construction and commissioning of Perth Park,” the advertisement says.
“To support the delivery of the Perth Supercars event within the precinct.
“To maximise content, utilisation and revenue across Perth Park, ensuring the venue is programmed and activated to its full potential across sport, entertainment and major events.”
The job description also discusses the need to build strong relationships for commercial purposes but makes no mention of nearby residents.
Applications for the level 9 public service role close on February 22.
