Navitas in line for La Trobe contract

Melbourne-based La Trobe University has named education provider Navitas as the preferred tenderer to manage its existing international college.

The La Trobe Univeristy International College offers English language programs and academic pathways to the university.

Navitas chief executive Rod Jones said Navitas and La Trobe University shared a commitment to the highest standards of educational services.

"Navitas is pleased and proud to be accepted by La Trobe University to operate this critical educational pathway for international students studying in Australia," Mr Jones said.

"Navitas has a strong track record in providing excellence in English language courses, foundation programs and diplomas to students both in Australia and internationally. We look forward to entering into a new partnership with the highly respected La Trobe University to continue that work in Melbourne."

La Trobe University vice chancellor Professor Paul Johnson said the choice of Navitas as preferred tenderer came at the conclusion of an exhaustive selection process.

"Navitas has demonstrable experience and commitment to delivering high quality education to international and Australian students, and we believe Navitas is the right choice for LTUIC," Prof. Johnson said.

Subject to further due diligence and final negotiations, the parties intend to execute a formal agreement in early 2010.

The operator of LTUIC will provide foundation and diploma studies, intensive English language courses, and will have the opportunity to offer new qualifications at the college.

Shares in Navitas were up four cents to $3.83 at 13:39 AEDT.
