Native Title Workshop
On Wednesday February 18 to Friday February 20 IIR Conferences in conjunction with Wanati Pty Ltd, is running a workshop titled Fundamentals of Native Title and Cultural Heritage, at the Duxton Hotel.
The workshop has been designed for those involved with resource, land and infrastructure development who need to understand the fundamentals of native title and cultural heritage legislation, policy, interpretations, negotiations and relationship building strategies.
Topics that will be covered during the workshop include, the statutory Native title and Indigenous heritage protection regimes that operate at both Commonwealth, State and Territory levels; Government policies linking project approvals to native title and cultural heritage issues; current legal interpretations of the concepts which define native title; and how to balance native title and cultural heritage processes.
The workshop will be presented by Wanati Pty Ltd principal John Clarke, a former consultant to the Western Australian Ministry of Premier and Cabinet with responsibilities for the negotiation of major land use agreements with native title claimants; the development of State native title legislation; and the coordination of the Governments response to native title issues.
