National record

THE National Australia Bank has recorded a record bank profit of $2,821 million for the year to 30 September.

This is an increase of 12.3 per cent on the previous year, excluding abnormal items.

Operating profit after tax before abnormals, and after deducting distributions to equity

holders other than ordinary shareholders, increased by 9.7 per cent to $2,747 million.

Basic earnings per share rose from 174.6 cents to 186.6 cents or 6.9 per cent for the year.
