Nacap wins WA pipeline contract

Melbourne-based Nacap Australia has won the contract to build a 200-kilometre gas pipeline to Gold Road Resources' Gruyere project near Laverton, and is pursuing other significant projects in Western Australia.

Nacap, which is a subsidiary of US engineering firm Quanta Services, has already begun establishing a temporary 200-person camp along the pipeline route, with work set to begin next month.

Nacap president Matthew O’Connell said securing the WA contract was a pleasing result.

“It’s certainly good to be working over in Western Australia again and it’s good to pick up that contract and keep our core business busy,” he told Business News.

Mr O’Connell said the last project the company had been involved with in WA was the Dampier Bunbury pipeline back in 2006.

Nacap has  focused on east coast projects since then, with current work in Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.

The company is focussed on pipeline contract work but Mr O'Connell said it had also moved into the renewable energy space.  

West Leederville-based Enscope is another Quanta subsidiary and the two companies were looking to team up in WA, according to Mr O’Connell.

“We are pursuing some projects in Western Australia in joint venture with Enscope,” Mr O’Connell said.

In 2016, Enscope completed a $17.5 million contract at AWE’s Waitsia gas project, located in the Perth Basin, connecting two new gas wells and flowlines as part of the first stage of the project.

In December, AWE announced it had received five tender submissions for the construction of the stage two Waitsia gas processing facilities and associated infrastructure.

The Waitsia project has been touted as the largest onshore conventional gas discovery in WA for decades.
