The National Basketball League has announced the 2020/21 season will begin in early December, when stadiums are expected to be back at full capacity.

The coronavirus outbreak had forced the NBL to postpone the 2020/21 season, normally beginning in October, as well as cancel last season’s Grand Final series.

The season is now expected to begin on or around December 3, and conclude by mid to late April next year.

NBL owner Larry Kestelman said the delayed start was chosen to accommodate as many fans as possible into stadiums.

As of tomorrow, RAC Arena in Perth will be able to accommodate 7,150 patrons, half of its usual crowd capacity, and is expected to be back to full capacity in mid-July when the state moves into Phase 5 of easing coronavirus restrictions.

Perth Wildcats chief executive Troy Georgiu said he looked forward to a Wildcats home game.

“Since having to shut the doors to our Grand Final series, our members have been incredibly patient and understanding of the difficult position sporting clubs have found themselves in, so we can’t wait to see them again and share the experience of unfurling our tenth NBL Championship banner together," Mr Georgiu said.
