Nickel producer Minara Resources has increased its 2011 production guidance for its Murrin Murrin project, situated between Leonara and Laverton, to between 33,000 and 37,000 tonnes of nickel.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, Minara said the increase reflected several important initiatives by the company over the past 12 months.

These includes, the successful completion of the October triennial statutory shutdown and subsequent successful restart of the plant, completion of de-bottlenecking projects, and development of the Murin Murrin East ore body.

The company said it had also reached agreement with its sulphur suppliers to implement supply arrangements, which will give protection against market price spikes.

"The benefit of the significant maintenance and capital upgrades that we have worked on throughout 2010 should be seen in our performance during 2011 and the years ahead," said Minara managing director and chief executive officer Peter Johnston.

"The risk reduction strategies that we have been working on, particularly in our sulphur supply area, will assist in protecting our performance from unforeseen factors," he said.
