The Water Corporation has named Sue Murphy as its new chief executive, replacing Jim Gill who retires at the end of the year after a 12-year reign.
The corporation's chairman Patrick O'Connor today announced the appointment which is for a term of three years.
"Mrs Murphy has a strong engineering background and the right personal qualities to undertake this challenging role," he said.
"She has been with the Corporation for four years, most recently as General Manager, Planning and Infrastructure. In this role she was responsible for the management of a more than $1 billion a year capital program including design, construction and commissioning of all new assets."
Mrs Murphy was the national winner of the Telstra Business Woman of the Year in the private sector category in 2000, in recognition of her work at Clough Engineering where she spent 25 years before joining the Water Corp.
