MURDOCH University’s MBA program has had a significant victory after a team of MBA students won the WA inter-university Boston Consulting Group Strategy Competition last month.
The six-member Murdoch team will compete in the national finals against teams from all over Australia and New Zealand.
The prestigious competition, now in its 10th year, requires team members to prepare a solution to a case study.
Murdoch senior lecturer in strategic management and MBA program chair John Krasnostein said the result was outstanding, especially given the short timeframe his students had to prepare for the competition.
“Team members received a 70-page document outlining the competition requirements and then had just three hours to prepare a solution to a case study,” Mr Krasnostein said.
The team had to make a 10-minute presentation about the subject of the case study – a major wine producer.
“The Murdoch team consists of a cross-section of students with wide-ranging backgrounds,” he said.
“Most of them expect to complete their MBAs at the end of this year after just one year of study.”
Mr Krasnostein said that, in the past, institutions in the eastern states or New Zealand had always won the national competition, so a win for WA would be a real coup.
Last year, the University of Auckland beat a field of 40 teams and more than 150 students.
