The Roberts family has put up $50 million to indemnify Multiplex from any loss that emerges on the company’s Wembley stadium project. The family owns 26 per cent of Multiplex. At the same time, NSW police are looking into an extortion attempt against the construction giant involving threats to shoot a crane driver on one of the company’s jobs unless $50 million is paid.
That news comes in a turbulent week for the company starting when it warned the market that it did not expect to record any profit from its $1.2 billion Wembley project. (See Briefcase, page 30.)
