Multiplex Group moves west

THE Multiplex Group has opened an asset management division in Perth to focus on Multiplex projects before directing its attention to new business acquisitions.

Jon Smeulders has been appointed to the position of general manager of the WA office and will be responsible for establishing and growing Multiplex Asset Management business in WA.

He said while the group would be maintaining Multiplex Construction projects, including the Swan Brewery redevelopment and the IMAX cinema complex in Northbridge, it already was in discussion with a number of property owners regarding prospective property and asset management appointments.

Keith Roberts has taken on the role of building manager and will be responsible for the operational management of the Old Swan Brewery complex, but will move into managing company-owned properties as the new business acquisitions expands.

Mr Smeulders says his immediate priority is to establish Multiplex Asset Management’s presence in WA and then to demonstrate the company’s capabilities and points of difference.

Mr Smeulders was formerly a director of investment property management with the Perth office of Knight Frank.

Mr Roberts moves from the North Sydney office of Knight Frank where he was a building engineer.

Projects already appointed to Multiplex Asset Management include Stadium Australia, the 47 floor Citigroup Centre in Sydney, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra.

Mr Smeulders said the advantage of such a large organisation was being able to provide clients with a complete asset management package.

“Our competitive advantage lies in the strength of the group, with our ability to offer developers, building owners, tenants and investors a fully integrated range of property facilities and asset management service,” he said.

“Clients can also benefit from the Group’s management of a project through its entire lifecycle, from funding design and construction to the ongoing management of the completed asset.”
