Mount Gibson Iron is evacuating 228 employees from Koolan Island as a precautionary measure following forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology regarding the future movement and intensity of Tropical Cyclone Magda.
The bureau forecasts Magda will track directly over Koolan Island as a Category 3 cyclone at approximately midday tomorrow.
The company said 64 emergency crew will remain on site and will move to the purpose built cyclone shelter facility on the island, in accordance with the company's Koolan Island cyclone management plan.

Tropical Cyclone Magda
At 9:09 am WST Thursday 21 January 2010 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (Bureau) issued Tropical Cyclone Advice Number 7 for Tropical Cyclone Magda (Magda) which forecasts the Bureau's best estimate of the cyclone's future movement and intensity.
The Bureau forecasts Magda will track directly over Koolan Island as a Category 3 cyclone at approximately midday WST Friday 22 January 2010.
Mount Gibson Iron Limited (Mount Gibson) is currently making all necessary preparations, including evacuating 228 employees from Koolan Island as a precautionary measure.
64 Emergency Crew will remain on site and will move to the purpose built cyclone shelter facility on the island, in accordance with the Company's Koolan Island Cyclone Management Plan.
