RACING HQ: The Perth Motorplex at Kwinana is home to drag racing and speedway events.

Motorplex dispute drags on

The state government has defended its oversight of motor racing in WA following accusations of anti-competitive behaviour.

The state government has become ensnared in a dispute over the control and direction of drag racing in Western Australia, with VenuesWest accused of having an unhealthy relationship with the operator of Perth Motorplex and putting profit ahead of other considerations.

The controversy has erupted after Perth Motorplex announced late last year that the US-based International Hot Rod Association would become the sanctioning body for all drag racing events at its Kwinana venue.

There is so much that isn't understood by the general population including myself on this issue and I question whether it is for profit before the good of racing. Does the sport become richer or do individuals, maybe companies with individuals receiving the most benefits? History tells the story and personalities played big roles in that, good and bad. What ever happens will it provide a platform to entice investment to get behind the racers or perhaps provide a return on investment for racers so that it encourages the growth of entry numbers in the top level categories. Will it perhaps open its minds and allow racers to choose whether they run TC or TF and be treated equally? We all know group 2, 3 and 4 levels are the back bones of any sport however we need Group one to bring people like myself back to the sport and draw the new blood as well. I wish to say this is my personal position only however know a lot of individuals out there that will confer.

questions should also be asked about the "overflow" ticket box on site at the entrance to motorplex . for many years it was staffed by more people than the actual ticketbox yet had no eftpos facilities available...................the place used to be an absolute cashcow for the operators . now sadly for the operators , racers & spectators (read lack of on two of those ) it is a them against us attitude between management & racers

Perth
I am led to believe that Andra would sanction the December event at the Motorplex if the Andra name was part of the promotion, but the Motorplex refused. That is supposedly why the Motorplex had to buy the IHRA name. There is no-one from IHRA in Australia and all the money for licencing, etc goes to the US. There is much more to this than the Motorplex, Venues West and the government are admitting. Check the Ihra website and see when the Motorplex was listed as an international Ihra track. The Ihra checked the Motorplex, Sydney Dragway & Willowbank for safety in January 2015

Should be an accc investigation into government departments and perth motorplex in their relationships, A new track is what this state neeeds now Collie has land allocation, grants permits etc Why has this not happened? Refer to first paragraph
