KARRIDALE, in the Margaret River wine region, is to be home to a 1,000 tonne capacity winery due to open in December.

The winery, being jointly developed by Hamelin Bay Wines and Alexandra Bridge Estate, will service the 55 hectares of existing vineyards owned by the two companies at Karridale. A further twenty hectares of vineyards are planned.

The companies’ two brands will be produced and marketed independently.

Contract winemaking will be available to local growers.

Leeuwin estate winemaker Philip Tubb has been appointed senior winemaker of the new venture.


RENOWNED chef Cheong Liew will challenge diners to ‘match my food!’ at the Parmelia Hilton’s Globe Wine Bar & Restaurant on 28 September.

Mr Liew will provide special dishes for guests to match with their selected wines. A prize will be presented to the person judged ‘Sommelier of the Night’.

The charge is $95 per person including corkage.


THE PARMELIA Hilton’s Globe Wine Bar & Restaurant will feature Voyager Estate at the next Meet the Maker session on 29 July.

Attendees can sample free cellar door style tastings and chat with the winemaker Stuart Pym from 5:00pm onwards.


ORIGINS Signature Restaurant at the Sheraton Perth Hotel will hold Meet the Master and the Makers winemakers’ dinners from August through to September.

A continuation of a series started in June, Richmond Grove will feature on 23 August, Houghtons on 22 September and Rosemount Estate on 13 October.
