More work in iron ore for SCEE

A Southern Cross Electrical Engineering subsidiary has been awarded approximately $50 million worth of work at BHP’s iron ore operations in the Pilbara.

SCEE advised it had won further work packages with BHP’s iron ore division at their central and eastern villages as part of the mining giant’s village security project in the Pilbara.

Under the agreed scope, SCEE will complete upgrades to access, lighting and monitoring systems at the site, with works estimated to finish by June 2022.

SCEE was also awarded an electrical and instrumentation works package by CIMIC subsidiary CPB Contractors as part of BHP’s ‘debottlenecking’ program at Nelson’s Point in Port Hedland.

Set to start in May, SCEE will oversee on-site assembly, installation and construction verification of all electrical and instrumentation component works, which is set to be completed in the second quarter of June 2023.

While the company did not provide an exact breakdown of the contract awards, it estimated the total value of the work at roughly $50 million. 

SCEE managing director Graeme Dunn said iron ore had been a strong sector for the business.

“I am pleased we continue to win work in WA’s iron ore sector which has been a very strong area for us in recent times,” Mr Dunn said.

“In my belief to have won significant further works on the Villages upgrades demonstrates how well our businesses around the SCEE Group are working together in delivering this multi-technology solution.”

SCEE shares were trading 2.4 per cent higher at 64 cents.
