More people in hospital as COVID cases climb by 5,005

The number of people hospitalised with COVID-19 has risen overnight as Western Australia's new infections climb by 5,005.

In a statement released this morning, WA Health reported 92 people were in hospital with COVID-19, an increase from yesterday's figure of 80. 

However, the number of patients in ICU remains unchanged.

Today's figures takes the number of active cases across the state to 20,788.

According to WA Health, that includes 485 COVID cases in the South west, 255 in the Pilbara, 225 in the Wheatbelt, 220 in the Goldfields, 129 in the Midwest, 107 in the Great Southern and 33 in the Kimberley region.

WA has recorded 39,226 cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

At yesterday's press conference, Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said she hoped WA would be over the worst of the pandemic by the end of March.
