The Westspeed Incentive Scheme has been introduced this season to reward thoroughbred racehorse owners when their horse wins a race.
Amounts of up to $10,000 are available to owners in addition to prize money.
Magic Millions deputy registrar Chris Tidy said the scheme was all about making the WA yearling market more viable.
“It gives owners and breeders a much better chance to get a return on their investment,” Mr Tidy said.
“Support for the scheme from breeders has been outstanding with virtually all of the eligible yearlings catalogued being scheme entrants.
“Some yearlings will not be eligible because they may be from sires not resident in the State or the breeders reside outside the State.
“But 460 of the total 530 lots catalogued for the big March sale have been nominated,” he said.
Magic Millions managing director Murray Tillett said similar incentive schemes in the past had favoured city races. Under the new scheme, rural breeders and mid-week winners are eligible for Westspeed bonuses.
“There’s an additional $1 million going out in bonuses,” Mr Tillett said.
