Mirrabooka Woolies warehouse approval

Fabcot has been given the green light to build a $23.8 million Woolworths warehouse in Mirrabooka, which will act as an online distributor.

Woolworths Group's property development arm lodged the submission for the 7,850 square metre customer fulfilment centre with the metro outer development assessment panel in February.

The development, on Alexander Drive, is described as a “direct-to-boot” facility, which means customers will order their groceries online and pick them up as a package.

It will include 12 car bays in a single storey building where customers can pick up their goods, a drive-through fast-food outlet, three retail showrooms and more than 400 car parking spaces.

The facility will add to seven customer fulfilment centres across Australia and be the first in Western Australia.

The City of Stirling recommended the development for approval subject to conditions, including that delivery vehicles not enter the site outside of 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sundays and public holidays.

The proponent managed to successfully argue the removal of that condition at the DAP, paving the way for vehicles to access the site any time.  

Speaking on behalf of Fabcot, Urbis senior urban planner Kris Nolan said access around the clock was important for the facility.

Deputy presiding member Clayton Higham commended the development, describing it as “an appropriate use for the location”.

The development was approved unanimously.
