Minara works completed

MINARA Resources has completed a $100 million capital works program on its Murrin Murrin laterite nickel project.

The 12-month program was designed to fix technical problems and enable the plant to reach its designed capacity.

Minara managing director Peter Johnston said the plant was operating at normal production rates and higher daily production would be possible once two new Gheo pumps were fully commissioned in May and June respectively.

“We remain on track to achieve our target daily production rate of 110 tonnes per day once steady state production is achieved through improved maintenance and production consistency,” he said.

Minara recently received a $155 million settlement from court action it had taken against Fluor Corporation, the company responsible for the construction of the Murrin Murrin plant.

That windfall was shared 60-40 with its Murrin Murrin joint venture partner Glencore.
