Nickel miner Minara Resources has confirmed its interest in BHP Billiton's Ravensthorpe nickel operation and is exploring various funding options.
The miner was confirming a report that appeared in today's Australian Financial Review, which said Chinese nickel player Jinchuan had pulled out of a joint bid with Minara.
Jinchuan's withdrawal has reportedly left China Metallurgical Group as the only Chinese bidder in the running for Ravensthorpe.
In a statement today, Minara said it is participating in the sale process, which is subject to strict confidentiality obligations.
"As part of its due diligence, Minara is exploring various funding options," Minara said.
"There is no certainty of the outcome of Minara's participation in the sale process."
"Minara will continue to keep the market informed of any material information."
BHP shut down the multi-billion dollar Ravensthorpe operation earlier this year, nine months after it was opened.
The shut down resulted in more than 2,000 people losing their jobs.
