Midland apartments to feature Power Ledger tech

Power Ledger’s energy trading technology has been incorporated into one of Western Australia’s most innovative building projects, the timber-based DeHavilland Apartments in Midland.

Power Ledger’s platform will be integrated into nine apartments at the four storey building, which is the state’s first timber-built multi-storey residential project and is being developed by BlueRock Projects.

A partnership with energy management firm Element47, Power Ledger’s system will enable households and commercial tenants at DeHavilland to trade solar energy between each other using smart meters.

Co-founder Jemma Green said DeHavilland was the latest in a series of developments to incorporate Power Ledger’s platform, which also provides households with an auditing system for energy consumption.

“Power Ledger’s platform is emerging as a state-of-the-art technology for homes of the future,” Dr Green said.

“Homeowners are looking for greener energy options and Power Ledger not only enables greater use out of renewable infrastructure, it also enables solar owners to participate in energy trading markets that were previously unavailable to them.”

Bluerock projects director Stuart Hawley said the integration of the Power Ledger system was a response to homeowners’ demand.

“Homeowners are increasingly becoming more environmental in their purchases, whether it be clothes, cars and increasingly in their homes,” Mr Hawley said.

“The energy systems are an integral part of the overall environmental picture for future developments.”

The DeHavilland apartments are under construction and expected to be completed by the end of the year.
