YET another change has occurred in Perth’s legal world with Blake Dawson Waldron partner Michael Lurie announcing his retirement from the firm and that he will be setting up his own firm Michael Lurie and Associates.
Mr Lurie practised with Blake Dawson Waldron for 13 years, specialising in property and project transactions, finance and commercial law.
He said the pressures of working in a major law firm had led to his decision to go out on his own.
"The pressures that are on partners to do everything such as running the firm, marketing, human resources issues plus doing the law," he said.
"You don’t get to spend enough time doing the law for your clients," he said.
Mr Lurie said his firm was a small one – himself – although he did have associates he could contract if the workload became too much.
"The workload is about the same as when I was at Blakes but I’m doing more of the things that I enjoy," he said.
"I tell my clients that this is a big firm that doesn’t want to grow."
